The Lord of the Rings Ranger sword was inspired both by the novels of J.R.R. Tolkien and the films based on his stories. The Ranger Sword is hand Crafted with 5160 High Carbon steel, dual hardened to Rockwell of 60 at cutting edge and 48-50 at the core. As with all our battle ready swords, the tang is peened over the pommel. The beautifully detailed leather handle is accentuated by the unique pommel, making this one of the most recognized fantasy swords. The blade is forged with a deep full length fuller.
The Dúnedain Rangers are pivotal characters in the world of Middle Earth. Many centuries before the start of the Lord of the Rings series there was the great island kingdom of Numenor. The rulers of this kingdom were the human descendants of the half-elven Elros, a great lord and powerful foe of evil. The island kingdom was raised to be the stronghold of Elros’ people, and for many years his descendants kept peace and were faithful followers of the Valar, the holy rulers of Middle Earth. They had great power and freedom, only forbidden one thing – to never sail into the west, and set foot on sacred Valinor. As the kingdom waxed in wealth and its rulers waned in wisdom they sought to challenge even the Valar, and set sail with a mighty fleet to Valinor. This fleet was utterly destroyed, and the island kingdom sundered and plunged beneath the waves. Only a small remnant was saved.
This remnant became the Middle Earth kingdoms of Gondor and Arnor and were ruled over by Elendil and his heirs. However, some of the surviving Numenoreans left these kingdoms and travelled to the north. There, they dedicated themselves to the eradication of evil and the defense of the free peoples of Middle Earth. They became known as the Dúnedain Rangers, and despite their efforts were widely distrusted by the folk who lived in these lands. Their thankless tasks unnoticed, they nevertheless fought tirelessly against overwhelming odds. None of these Rangers were anything less than heroes, and none of them more famous than the one they called Strider.

The Ranger Sword is a hefty inspirational two handed sword. The broad long blade delivers lethal, powerful blows aided by it’s weight. The Ranger sword, at 4 lbs 11 oz, is by far our heaviest battle ready sword, mainly deriving from the large pommel and guard. Despite it’s weight, the sword is well balanced, responsive and rugged. I recently received my Ranger sword, and wanted to give my honest feedback. On the plus side; it’s beautiful, has an excellent temper, is a well balanced cut & thrust high-medieval longsword, and has great handling characteristics. After finishing the sharpening (more on that later) it cuts wonderfully, and even though most reviewers online seem to feel it’s overly heavy, I LOVE the weight! Finally, a sword that doesn’t feel like a piece of balsa wood in my hands! (I’m a weightlifter & longtime martial artist with weapons)
On the minus side; it arrived with only two problems worth mentioning: 1- the “sharpening” it came with was anything but. This was easily corrected with some time and work, and the excellent temper has retained the finished edge I gave it quite well. 2- the crossguard fits nice and tight on one side of the blade, but on the opposite side there is a 1/8″ gap. I know that doesn’t sound like much, but trust me, it looks like the Grand Canyon up close…
Overall, I feel that at this price point, one would be hard-pressed to do better. It’s not perfect, but it’s damn good.
Nothing is structurally wrong with the fit & finish, so I kept it, warts and all. My only wish is that the crossguard and blade had a better marriage. Other than that, I’m quite happy with my purchase, and plan to buy the Gothic two-handed Sword next. I hope this review gets posted on Darksword’s website, and that it helps potential customers in making an informed purchase. If I wasn’t happy with it, I would have sent it back, so that says something too. 😉

I received my Ranger sword and cannot believe what an awesome piece it is. I have waited quite a few years to get a “ real “ sword. I shopped around, but the prices were always prohibitive and the wait to long. Thank you Darksword for incredible craftsmanship and prompt delivery. Hopefully this is the first of many that I purchase from you guys. Highly recommend that anyone wanting a quality blade should give you guys a try. You will not be disappointed!!

The Ranger sword from Darksword Armory is an impressive item to say the least. It’s heft is wonderful in the hands and a pleasure to use (2-handed mostly, but one handed occasionally, be careful with follow through…). I’ve used and abused it on light targets (water bottles etc) and medium targets as well (tatami mats and small branches), and it has held up beautifully.
I will also say that costumer service at Darksword is amazing. When I had a hiccup with the sword they helped me out and I could not be happier with their response and solution.
This is of course a large and hefty sword, as well as a “fantasy” piece, so do not expect this sword to show up in pictures from medieval books or follow a specific typology. I have other period-accurate pieces that serve that purpose, but I also like the Ranger for what it is…
Not a wallhanger, but a fully functioning sword to be used and enjoyed.

I’ve been around swords for decades and this my friends is a sight to behold. I had to hold my breath on drawing this out of the superbly done scabbard which holds this blade secure even when turned upside down astonishing quality . No small feat for a blade of this size the scabbard does its job. Both edges came sharpened as ordered and cut paper cleanly from tip to guard, superb sharpening from Darksword Armory thanks guys! I am speechless at the quality of this sword which is so obviously battle worthy. Truly a defining blade for the Lord of the Rings fans out there its a must have for any collection. The balance is shocking at 2.5 inches from the guard this is one serious weapon that could be managed with one hand if necessary provided the warrior in you has the strength the blade has the balance to be certain. Definitely a favorite amongst my collection this Lord of the Rings ranger sword will not disappoint you and I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to own one.

I received my Ranger sword this morning and after a good inspection I could not be more pleased ,blade perfectly straight and x-guard aligned with blade perfectly. Stitching on handle is darn near flawless, peening on pommel again is excellent. Now how it performs, wow let me tell you this sword is powerful,unbelievably so, it is heavy but I am a pretty strong guy and was able to practice my witcher type snake and figure 8’s and slice heavy water jugs with it with eaze. Would you want to all the time ,,no but in a pinch with your left arm protecting a Damsel in distress from those foul Orcs..yup.I ordered this sword with a plain jane scabbard but D.S. in their wisdom sent me the upgraded interlaced on…wow lucky me…Is this sword perfect…well no…in fact the only flaw I can find really is there is a larger gap where the blade and xguard meet than I would like …but hey I understand these are mass produced so I can;t really complain…I still give this sword 5 outta 5

I received this sword this morning and have been playing with it all day. First after unwrapping and a thorough visual inspection I must say “well done D.S.”Blade and x-guard perfectly aligned peening darn near perfect, handle beautifully wrapped, slight gap at x-guard which is the only flaw I could find. I ordered this sword unsharpened and with a plain scabbard but D.S. in their wisdom sent me the upgraded interlaced scabbard(thank-you). this sword is heavy when compared to say the 15th century gothic sword or the 15th century hand and a half sword, but not overly so, D.S. advertises it at 4lb 11 0zs and mine comes in darn near on the mark. After sharpening and warming up I was able to do the witcher figure 8s and snake moves 1handed. It is definitely a two handed sword but in a pinch and while protecting your damsel in distress from foul orcs you can wield it quite well with one hand. Like I said this is a two hander and using it as such this sword as authority big time I dare say you whack someone with this across their helmet /Bascinet with this and they are going to feel it. Have been cutting water jugs and also attacked a 5 gallon can ( it got mouthy) and various other pieces of not recommended stuff I can tell you this sword is …hell it has a lot of jam…well done Darksword keep up the great work

I just received my Ranger sword today and I cannot emphasize how blown away I am. Every aspect of this sword is beautiful. Quite the upgrade from the UC versions. The sharpening service did a really fantastic job as well. This is REAL craftsmanship in an age of automated garbage. Well done DSA!
